Tanzanian Pastor to Preach at First Lutheran, Le Sueur

First Lutheran Church is excited to welcome the Rev. Emmanuel Kaghondi as a special guest preacher on Sunday, March 26. Pastor Kaghondi, a native of Tanzania, will be preaching at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. services. Between the two services, at 9:15 a.m., Kaghondi will be giving a presentation about life and ministry in the Central Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania. His talk is titled “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Pr. Kaghondi and his wife, Deborah, are from the Singida region of Tanzania. Deborah, is also a pastor and is living in Tanzania with the couple’s two young children, Mercy and Abner.

Rev. Emmanuel Kaghondi is an ordained pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania- Central Diocese. He has served in different congregations in Tanzania since 2004 as a parish pastor, preacher, administrator, Christian Education teacher and Church musician; applying Folk tunes and stories to Biblical passages. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Music Education at the University of Minnesota after teaching at Tumaini University Makumira – Tanzania; (a Lutheran University that offers the only music degree in the entire country of Tanzania.)  His teaching and research areas are in Multicultural Music curriculum development, ethnomusicology and Music technology. Other professional activities include music composition and choral music. Rev. Kaghondi is living with Phil and Kim Williams in Owatonna while commuting to classes during the week in the twin cities and visitng ELCA Lutheran congregations on weekends.

The public is invited to join in worship, learn some Swahili music, and take in the presentation on March 26. First Lutheran is located at 116 Inner Dr., Le Sueur. A free-will offering will be received to assist Rev, Kaghondi with educational and travel expenses. After the 10:30 service there will be a grilled chicken luncheon with Pr.
